The Citizen’s Run Trust has consciously sought to empower those organizations and individuals engaged in social welfare work, who lack the resources for a significant presentation of their work to a larger society. Many dedicated groups are unable to tap into the charitable impulses of ordinary people and donors merely because they cannot articulate their achievements in appropriate fora. Such groups are in dire need of support in the form of both, resources, and recognition as encouragement of their work.
The Trust selects, after proper verification, small, voluntary non-governmental organizations engaged in welfare activities in Chennai. Particular note is taken of quality work in the areas of literacy, adult and vocational education, mother and child healthcare, family welfare, sanitation and a cleaner Chennai, income generating activities for the handicapped and other areas contributing towards self-reliance, dignity of labour and the fight against intoxication and cruelty.
The non-government organizations that have been supported by the Citizens’ Run so far are organizations that work with the handicapped, the elderly, HIV Positive persons, suicide interventionists, and civic awareness groups. The activities of these NGOs are periodically monitored and needless to say that they have been doing exceptionally good work with full dedication to the society. Every year the beneficiaries are selected through personal visits and strict auditing/scrutinizing of their accounts. The funds are realised through the sale of T-shirts and donations from Corporate giants like NOKIA, Kasturi & Sons Ltd, G K Shetty Builders Pvt., Ltd, Citibank, UNIFI Wealth Management, Ford India, Cognisant Technologies, TVS group, MIOT Hospital, Hasbro Clothing.
In the year 2013, we extended our support to Sarva Vidya and Multi Sclerosis Society of India. The annual Citizen’s Run attracts many runners from different walks of life.
